Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
