Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
